i dont get this. what is index for when there is a function or sub that has index as one of the needed variables?

It's the number of the player in use.

so like the server is Index 0, and the next player to sign in is index 1, and so on?

Server doesn't have an index.

I think it does start at 1, I really can't remember, there's rarely any reason you'd need to know the number itself, everything is in context.

The index is the number that is temporarily assigned to a player currently online. The player will keep the same index number as long as they are connected to the server. anytime you need to do something to a player (such as change a stat or get an update) you use their index number. The client stores the individual's index as MyIndex, and everyone else is usually a single letter variable, such as n. The index number is only temporary, so if the server restarts or the player logs off and back on again they receive a new index based on the order in which they got on the server compared to other players.
