This thread will be a primary benefit to Dawn of Light's development. From time to time, I will update and continue this thread with my latest work so that the mirage community can lend their suggestions, thoughts and ideas too help push DoL to the best than it can become.

Your honesty is appreciated, though if you feel negatively towards my work, please explain why so I can improve on my style.

Glad you joined us.

And the paperdoll, not half bad from what I can see.

First of all, welcome to the community, Vortigem.
Robin seems brings over some of the talented Eclipse members here, so I guess that would make you one of the better ones.

Good luck with your game, your images aren't working for me.
But from your videos, I think your game is pretty sexy.

Thank you. Though in all honesty, I'm not satisfied with the outcome of my character sprite & PD, thus I'm redrawing them all from scratch once again to hopefully settle on a better, final product (especially less basic).

Thank you very much Rory, though I wouldn't consider myself to be one of the better out of Eclipse's community - but I do the best I can with what I have available.

Is anyone else having difficulty viewing the images? I can re-host if necessary (these are old image links).

Now the images are showing, wow.

I like the bartender ones. Look's like you put effort into it.

Two thumbs up :]

Thanks guys ^_^ I do appreciate it.
I'm nearly done with the new character sprite base design. I'll try and have it up within the next day or two so you can tell me whether or not it is worth keeping as sprite design base, or if I should continue further revamps.

***Edit***
Here is a gif image comparing the new and old sprite in its current state. The GIF obscures the quality (especially the eyes). The new sprite is also bald, because I want dawn of Light to feature hair styles.

What are your thoughts thus far?

The guy's skin color in the new sprite is ugly.

Yeah I agree.

But the sprite got tons better, no joke.

I assume you'll prolly use 3 frames for walking, which would make that look a lot better.

The new sprite, I like it more than the old, but the palette is a little odd.

Post subject:  Re: Vortigem Interactive - Dawn of Light

Yeah the skin colour is surely better in the first one, and i somehow like the face of the first sprite more :P.

Awesome, thanks for the feedback guys.

I would love to work with additional frames, but that all depends how far I can take my art development to inspire a good programmer to join my project. (my VB knowledge is very limited) All in all, I would like to have additional animation frames to work with such as walk, attack, sit and dead. But I try not to get too far ahead of myself.

So I reworked the sprite's skin tone. Here is the old image, as well as the new example.
ImageImage
Instead of trying to create new skin tones from scratch, I used my previous sprite's skin tones and did some minor shifting of their shades and colors. What are your thoughts now?

The eyes don't actually bounce, that's just an effect caused by the low GIF quality.
Lol I'll look into more skin tones.

I really <3 your graphics. Let me know if you have any old work you'd like to donate (or sell) :D

I think I'll keep the new skin tone for now, will make further alterations at a later time if need be. I think he is a decent median between other human races I intend to include.

Currently I'm working on completing his sprite to the point where I am 100% satisfied and will begin to completely rework my paperdolling around this character. I intend to include far more detail in weapons & armor this time around. Though I foresee some difficulty with two-handed weapons, that's something I will have to work around.

Even though Head, Chest, Primary & Secondary are the only current Paperdoll availabilities - I'm going to Paperdoll Legs, Hands & Feet as well, in hopes that when I eventually have a custom engine to work with, it may include those inventory slots.

Thank you very much for the compliment Rian :D
I can't say whether or not I'll be giving up my previous work after I complete these new sheets, however there are always possibilities :)

He looks Brown at least or very tanned... middle eastern or something... lighten the skin up if you want the typical white/caucasion found in mmorpgs

If I make him any lighter, he may look too closely to the Nordane - one of my northern viking-like races (pale skin).
I'll further adjust the tones if need be after I begin working on the races/sexes.

I've finished some test paperdolling, this test video includes the base sword and shield PD.

Please check this out and let me know your thoughts and or how I can improve.
