Well, I finally gained the courage to attempt to map something lol. So here it is...

Image

Also, what do you think of my GUI? It's pretty basic, but that's what the result of an hour in Paint was :p

The blank red box there is where the who's online list and friend list pop up, as well as the inventory and spells.

Flame away![/img]

That red makes my eyes water :'(

It too bright, the font is hard to read, and having some shading, or gadient style colour would make it look a lot better (also, tone down the colour!)

The map is quite poor. When did you last see a big tree (alone) next to some sort of path, with a 6 story cave near it?

Your mapping skills need some more work (cliffs do not look like that!!!) and the gui is quite poor.

sorry if I sound a bit harsh, but I really think you should re-design it, or get someone who know's what they are doing. (also, unless doing pixel work, paint is really not the best tool to use. Download GIMP)

I was actually in the process of writing something along the lines of what Kite said but I ended up just canceling it because I didn't wanna feel like a prick. Thanks for saying it for me, Kite! ;)

Things this needs..
1) Something more effecient then Paint....
2) A mapper....
3) All the above.

ya...

Mapping is alright for a beginner, but you could definately do with some work.. You probably want to have a look at some random photos of real life scenery.. This may help, i dont know.. The main problem with your map would be that it looks much too man-made.. This is one thing that makes mapping hard, trying to make it look natural, but also making it look like theres something that has/or will alter the environment.. If that makes any sense..

The gui on the other hand is a good first atempted.. I would just say to try and find a 'better' program to make your gui.. Paint seems much too limited for a gui.. Your layout isnt bad though, i like the layout of the gui.. But again, it could do with a font change, etc..

Keep up the good work..

I try to stay away from the graphics, for the reason being I can't make them... I am a good mapper, though... sometiems :P

That's why I plan to either A) get rid of all GUI aspects of Valkoria or B) make it fully customizable and dont include anything for it with Valk other than a small example.

Mapping FTW!!! (Just got off CSS :|)

What people dont do is make the GUI around the tiles. The tile set your using
makes the game bright so you need a darker GUI so it focus more on your mapping.

Well, I got a nice textured GUI from advocate last night, thank you a lot :)> That gave me the push I needed, so this is what it looks like now... pay no attention to the map, its the same, and we know it sucks already lmao.

that much red=bad :\

For the map, its too plain for me. Stay away from making square or straight objects on map(well for natural things anyway) such as your cliff. might wanna add a dirt part or more bushes or trees as well.

much better gui, its not as bad when its black, its pretty simple. I could tolerate it, but it doesnt really pop out saying 'I rock'(yes awesome guis do speak xD) Its not terrible though. It takes practice to get really good. I'm not sure what to suggested to fix it though

The map is better :P.

I feel you should keep it as plain as possible, so your players dont sit there and stare at your gui, instead of playing your game.

I don't think anyone would be stupid enough to sit there and stare at a gui instead of playing the game, lol.

Haha. No. But I have had players on OLoR, log on, and never level, when I messaged them and asked what they were doing, they said they were looking at the gui. I told them to take a screenshot, instead of wasting space. So, I havn't done it, but some of my old players have.

Well, I turned myself invisible, and warped to them, and checked the logs, they were literally doing nothing.

statisticlly, people spend less time looking at dark colored websites, perhaps it's the same with GUIs?
