so I am going to be adding professions into my game, like mining, etc. Trying to come up with different things I can do. as far as gathering goes, I need a profession to mine minerals, one to extract energy from various sources (natural gases, nuclear fuel, solar, geothermal, etc.) and the other I though about was someone who collects exotic materials, like animal and plant parts for cloth and stuff. as far as crafting professions, I have a weapon crafter, armor crafter, and supply crafter. can anyone think of good names for these professions, or other ideas for new professions? |

As for the person who extracts I came up with Extractor (XD) and Samplist how did you come up with those? I have a few names I've found doing some research. Botanist - plants collector mineralogist - mineral collector Taxidermist - animal parts collector still nothing for the energy collector, I don't like the sound of engineer. Armorer - armor crafter Munitions expert - weapon crafter First aid/Toxicologist - supplies expert. For my game, Race determines what you look like and you starting stats, Class determines your starting stats, and what skills and equipment you have access to, and Professions are for gathering and crafting items. When you create a character, you choose a name, gender, race, class, and one or two professions. |

I'm trying my hardest to make this game unique, especially with names and such. My game already takes heavily from the star wars "space opera" theme, as well as game design elements of world of warcraft ported to 2D, So I'm trying to keep it to a minimum. |

unfortunately most of those are geared towards a fantasy setting, and I am looking for things that are more in line with a futuristic "Space Opera" setting such as Babylon 5, Star Wars (Minus the jedi) and such. |

no jedi, minus jedi, sans jedi. I want my game to be as far removed from "magic" as possible. I might later on develop something to do with psionics, but I want to stress the technology of the universe. I already have character classes down: Soldier: bread and butter tank and damage dealer. uses short range weaponry and melee to take and dish out damage. Medic: heals self and others through use of high technology and battlefield techniques. Hacker: can temporarily buff and debuff people through the use of hardware and software hacks. Diplomat: Uses defensive skills to help self and teammates, but real strength is the RP element. Diplomats will be the only class capable of joining the Galactic Senate and helping to pass laws in the universe of Athrandir. Smuggler: jack of all trades, master of none. uses many different abilities to turn a profit, even if it may not be legal. Ranger: Long Range weapons expert and the primary ranged damage dealing class. focus is on long range weapons, with low armor for high accuracy and maneuverability. The thing I am trying to focus on is professions, secondary character skills that allow the player to collect and craft different tiems in the game. a Miner would collect ore that would be used by a munitions expert to craft ammo for guns, etc. Kind of like World Of Warcraft. the only thing is I am trying to find professions that can be used in a science fiction setting. Something like an Alchemist does not work in my game because alchemy is magic, not science. |
