Get more languages under your belt, But be able to manage it. C# is pretty nice. I don't use it at all in what I do. But took a look at it when Realmforge GDK first came out and got into it a bit. Stopped. Wish I didn't.

Actually, once again. An offline map editor is REALLY easy. Very easy, Read how the map editor "sends" the maps, but instead save the maps. I will be working on my own off line Map editor for FTO, I have to start from scratch on FTO as I lost data because of some stupid virus, but at leas... |

Note: I haven't read through this whole post. I recommend working in C# if anything. Its not very much live Visual Basic, but it is a good transition. Alot better then Plain C lol. DirectX 7 use's Direct Draw, and blt functions, which make it allot easier to program in. Theres no point in adding DX8... |

Go to a local college or find a friend at one they can get visual studio. Usually between $50-$125 bucks way less then having to buy it from Microsoft, and perfectly legal.
