Hey everyone, I actually worked on an ORPG engine in Java for about 3 months earlier this year. It's nowhere near complete, but I haven't touched it since then so I figured some of you guys might want to check it out. You can see the code at: https://github.com/jokeofweek/orpg It's written in Java w... |

Nice Are you using Socket.io for the client side, or is there a .NET library for that? I must admit I'm not familiar with ASP.NET and I haven't checked out C# in ages. |

Nice, looking good! How do you find working with Websockets in C#? The only experience I have with them is Node.js but they seemed pretty sweet from what I saw!
Keep on going with this! |

Well, the system I've made so far allows you to create UI components either canvas-rendered or through a DOM element, while wrapping it all in a common interface (for things like positioning, dimensions, and focus) and it seems to work fine so far! |

So I've started working on a super basic prototype, but I've hit my first kind of big snag - UI's using the canvas. I'm looking into it now, but there doesn't seem to be many good UI frameworks for the <canvas> tag, and re-implementing all of the UI functionalities that you'd expect (caret, text sel... |

You could always try a site scraping tool, however these generally only get resources which have links to them. If you are lucky, the site you are looking for -might- have directory listing turned on, although poeple usually have it turned off. In that case, you can't really get resources which have... |

I just finished up a 3 year Computer Science college program, and now I'm off to university next fall to do Software Engineering, so I'm pretty stoked about that (our school system in Canada is a bit strange). Apart that life has been rather tame, I've been working at a software firm and just trying... |

I've worked with Websockets, but they are indeed a bit meh. Socket.io provides a nice interface for it but it's still not perfect.
I've been hacking around for part of the afternoon to make at least a small prototype, but there are some annoyances with Node - it's callback hell lol. |

Well, since Mirage had more or less dissappeared I had gotten into the roguelike development world, where procedural generation is almost always used. This is a great starting point: Procedural Content Generation Wiki Although the game won't be using procedural generation in the traditional sense (r... |

You could always make some script to randomly generate at some basic wilderness maps for you? I think this would save you a ton of time, and depending on how much you work at the script, could produce awesome results. Procedurally generated content is suh-weet. |

Haha, I'm looking into it now and am curious if binary data is supported by Socket.io.. all I've ever done before is used it for JSON. It'd definitely be preferrable if we could start with binary packets, rather then converting it all later.
Edit: This might be an interesting library to use. |

Well, while there are PHP Websocket libraries, I think that it would be very interesting to use Node.js as it could lower the 'barrier of entry' for new programmers, since they don't have to learn two different languages. As for the editors, I think either a seperate version of the client or stand-a... |

I think this definitely could be done with websockets and canvas. The back-end could be done using Node.js, and the websockets stuff using Socket.io.
An in-browser version would be sweet. I miss the good old days of having a project to work on.. |
